I also go to a small mom and pop yard all my metal is presorted and the guys love to see me come. they even help unload my steel because they know there is some coffee in the truck waiting for us to get done with weighing. If it is a slow day i might hang around for a bit talking shop and have a great relationship with the guys and gals. I only gave cash once it was near christmas and they opened up a little early for me the look on their faces when the cash hit their hands was priceless.
