Alot of times you find those in cisco switches...they connect the boards that run each "bank" or row of connectors. You can see those in older computers that connect a daughter or expansion board as some have mentioned.

I just pulled a dead cisco switch that had 3 rows of connectors and each board was connected with those with the bottom board having it basically soldered to it....just take some cutters or a vibrating cutoff tool and cut that off amd send in as the $44/lb vs $2-3 for the high grade boards.
