Got .03 a lb today for lite iron... .UGH!!! Well at least my trailer is clean... Now WHERE in the world should I spend this $19.20???
I took a load of scrap to the yard and learned about a local e scrap buyer. The local scrap cashier told me of an escrap buyer who was local and I decided to give them a try. I went and asked about their prices and they started sorting my load and weighing. I did not check before it was weighed and priced and dumped into their bins. I think I made a big mistake. I should have taken the ride to Tampa. By the time I knew what I was going to make on the load it was too late. A mistake I will not make again...
It's been 110/ton .055/lb here for a while now, including yesterday. Hasn't budged one way or the other.
Didnt hit the yard, but i seen on their website that shred is down $20/ton to 125/ton. Dont know what the shredder yard is at, but i will find out when i go next.
Down to $105/ton Atlas of Aurora
...now down to $100/ton at Denver Scrap Metal Recycling
Just tried out a new scrap yard a couple days ago when I discovered my usual yard was both closed and known for ripping people off on prices. This new yard was over in Norcross, GA, about 35 minutes from me, but it was totally worth it. They buy all kinds of material as it's own grade. DVD/CD drives, PSUs, ballasts, motors from printers and small electronics, whole LCD monitors and TVs, and much more. That, and their steel price was at about 5.5 cents per pound, much better than what I've been getting in the past- less than 2 cents per pound. Took in a total weight of 791 lbs of material and walked away with $161. Granted, most of that was in bare bright copper, but I definitely noticed better prices on everything. The bare bright was a little over $2.10/lb.
Just thought I'd share it with everyone in case anyone else happens to operate in north Georgia.
Now down to a a sad $90/ton from $105 Atlas Metal and Iron in Aurora, CO
At least my last very small load was almost entirely non-ferrous. ~$71 from 177lbs of material.
Got a broken 4 piece tub from my plumber contact today. Didnt want to unload it so i threw in what other cast i had laying around and went straight to the yard... Sink, more tub pieces, dirty sewer pipes, ect.
Cast Iron 145/Ton. Totaled 740 lbs, $53.65
I cannot share shred prices because that is not a category we have. The closest is tin/wire and that is paying $ 20/NT. Our basic categories also include appliances, prepared, unprepared, HMS, and the usual non ferrous. Combines, tractors, plows all have their own pricing as well. To give you an idea of our prices that most can relate to - aluminum cans are down to .20 a pound. This is half our average price.
Down from $100 to $95/ton Denver Scrap Metal Recycling
Looks like metal is going down...
5500 #’s went in Monday. Down to $80 per ton at western metals. Even with the extra $10 I get from then I’m going to start avoiding ferrous like the plague. I called them that morning to make sure they were open and asked the price. She quoted me 90 without my bump. I showed up and dumped and went in to collect and looked up at the board and sheet iron was listed at 80 with a date from a week earlier. She misquoted it. I was hoping they would stand by the quote, but didn’t press the issue
In Sioux city, shred is at $160/ton (2,000lbs), down from $175 last month I think. Just hauled 1,100 pounds in my ranger today. Got $88 for it.

I called down to Clearfield ... $0.3 /lb for small loads of shred ( $60 /ton ) as of this afternoon .
Novey pays more $ for large loads.

Somerset ky
Tin/appliances/shred ....$80/ ton
Short steel/#2 prepared iron...$140/ton
Car bodies.....$115/ton empty
****Car bodies full of junk ..$105/ton
*****That is a new category because people was filling their car bodies with tin/shred and getting that price instead of the lower price,(guilty!!!).
Sheet iron $90.00 net ton. $.045 lb.
Un prepared $120.00 net ton. $.06 lb.
Clean sheet iron $135.00 net ton. $.065 lb.
Prepared $140.00 net ton. $.07 lb.
820 pounds in northeast DFW got me 41 bucks and a Chick-fil-a chicken sammich. They hand out Chick-fil-a on Saturday mornings. I don't know why... it's not like they need to incentivise people to come in that day! It's CRAZY busy!
So 5 cents a pound.
Shred up another $5 / ton. Not a big jump but im sure its cause of the cold and snow. Its been pretty much a ghost town there lately and curb co is sold out and im ganna get a rain check. Shred now 145/ton at the shredder yard and 125/ton at non shredder yard.
5 cents a pound, has not changed in 3 months.
Back up to $105/ton from $95 Tuesday.
Wednesday... worst snowstorm in Denver that I can recall, not in inches of snow by a long shot, but the wind and blowing snow etc... and I have lived in the metro area since 1975. It was worse on the south and east side of town. The highway at an intersection very close to my house was closed from there to Kansas. Sadly I heard there was even one fatality.
Unconfirmed, but i heard 60 $ a ton last week.
Gasoline held at 2.499 through the winter but it's on the rise.
Ten cent increase to 2.599 / gal last week.
Another ten cent increase to 2.699 / gal. a few days ago.
Hauled a load in yesterday and the day before 3,060 and 2,480 pounds. $174/ton
Shred down $10 / ton at the non shredder yard. Their web site still said 140/ton, not 130. Cashier checked the web site and with the boss.... Got the 140/Ton. Classy fellas

$90-$100 a ton here for scrap aka shred - down $10 a ton, also aluminum down and gasoline is still up and holding
$85/ton at the yard that was previously at $100/ton :l
I'm glad this last load I didn't drive more than a few miles to obtain.
In fact I might be done with this for a little while. Not sure $85/ton is worth it with fuel prices where they are.
$75/ton @ Atlas Iron & Metal of Aurora
Glad I had mostly non-ferrous - (totaled almost double in $ for what ferrous I had) and also glad I didn't use more than 2 gallons of fuel and less than an hour of my time to acquire and clean everything. No more side gig curb/Craigslist shopping for me for a while, IT consulting and e-waste it is...
Does anyone know copper prices and aluminum. I also have a little brass.I was thinking about hauling it in just wanting to know about how much I will get
Shred dropped another 10/Ton. Now down to 115/ton at the shredder yard.
