Your yard probably used a hand held XRF to determine the alloy composition of any cast suspect of being high grade.
What they're looking for is Chromium and Nickel or a combination.
This type of cast at the
foundry is worth in the neighbourhood of $800.00 ton and is used in high heat applications requiring abrasion resistance like large pumps used in the mining industry. Some English gasoline and diesel engine blocks had a high chromium content,
Chevy small block with 010 cast into the blocks have a high nickel content.
Some but not all diesel engine cylinder liners could be made from a chromium / cast iron alloy.
There are methods of identifying a metals composition using acids which are considered non destructive.
