I worry that all I do is trip over the dollars for the dimes! I don't have any other scrap work to do right now so it's not like I'm choosing this over something else so at first it seemed like it was worth it but now i'm starting to wonder... If I had employees i wouldn't pay them to do this though - their hourly would most likely be over what i would be gaining.Quote:

Thats something you have to look into as part time said. Sometimes its not worth spending the hours it will take to make a small amount. So take an item and work on it to get good at it (so you can get a good test) and then time your self to see how long it takes you to do X amount of weight. Back when I first started with motherboards and I still see it from other people who sell to me. They will remove the metal on the PCI card. That metal strip can be left on as the pricing is based with it on..not off so why remove it and lose that steel weight. Another item that's removed alot that does not really need to be removed is the north bridge heatsink on the motherboard. They want to remove it to add it to there AL bucket that will sell at $0.8 or so when they could leave it on the board and get $3+ per pound.
Some things are worth braking apart, Something are best to leave as they are for the fact of the time it takes or the weight factor.
My sentiments are with pistonescrap and Julie. I prefer to work smart not hard.
That 'cat 5' wire burns really well in a fire.
Since the strands are single & thickish, it transfers heat really well & since its a single strand, theres no gaps for the molten plastic to get into.
I find that if you weigh your plastic coated wire, the burnt off weight is 2/3rds of the plastic coated wire weight.
Oh, yeah, 3 phase cable, with 7 strands of copper wire in it, weighs 140 grams per metre.
I found out how to combat 'Scrappers claw'? (what happens to your hands after stripping wire...) by accident.
I got stung by a bee on my left hands middle finger, not badly stung - just a nip.
After that my hand got warm & itchy, swelled up a bit & the next day I could get movement in my fingers.
The day after there was more movement & by the third day I could move my hands like normal.
The scars & cuts started healing up real quick too.
At the end of a week, my hands were better than they were beforehand.

The bee gave me a light sting, I could feel the sissor like action of the stinger as it went in & then I wiped the bee off me, it didn't kill the bee like most bee stings do.

I would love it if I could sell my plastic coated wire to a scrapper. For about 60% of the weight, at Copper prices.
Just the wire & plastic coating. I would have all of the plug ends & connectors cut off like I do when burning it.
Its just that the scrappers have a low price for 'Wireing looms' because they expect them to be covered in oil & dirt & plastic tape & tubing with the plastic & rubbery brass connections still on the looms.
In theory I can return more than 70% of the pre chopped weight in Copper if its chopped up, unlike burning.. = less than 66%

Basicly, I would like to walk in with 100Kg of cleaned plastic coated wire, with no brass etc on it & they would give me the money for 60Kg of Domestic copper.
They would chop it up, seperate the plastic & copper & then sell it as #2 Copper at their comercial weights

I think you'll find stripping that is a little more rewarding then cat5. :)
