Ooooh. Thought of another one. (Don't hate a grumpy Irishman) I am a business, registered, certified, advertised. I am everywhere, I spend time and money advertising (professionally I might add) and check out the local facebook groups that people buy sell and trade on. Now where I'm at, the two biggest hobbies in the area appear to be drinking and scrapping so theres a fair amount of healthy competition. This is where it gets ugly. I see people looking for that "Jack scrap" guy and several people directing them to me. The first question by the OP is "What's his number?" to which a competitor sneaks in and hijacks the discussion by giving his name and number. Now I try to play fair here. I don't hassle people or try to mess with the other guys' customers but to repeatedly to sneak in and act like you either are me or somehow better gets me every time. Some will give full blown reasons, others just seem far fetched. One guy claims that he will pick up for free, split the profits and donate his half to charity. Not really a viable business model. Others will say that they are doing it to raise funds for some kids project but I hear through others this kids project is more like a personal project...like drinking and gambling. I suppose I should take some stock of how effective my own advertising is and weigh it against peoples laziness to simply google my business.
