Ok. Here's a quick one. I saw a guy on youtube doing something illegal and dangerous related to scrapping. I called him out on it. One of his fanboys flames me saying I don't know what I'm talking about. I cite law, regulation, hell I even call up business contacts to check my facts. What do I get more of them on my case saying I don't know what I'm talking about, it's all legal, Im a complete moron, people like me don't do it as a business, physics schmysics blah blah blah. I even gave them the number of a company I do business with and said to call them and give them their bull**** facts. What is the response? "You don't know what you're talking about. You're a moron if you believe these 'laws'. You probably don't even know this company at all let alone called them" I declined to respond any further; I had to run to the bank to deposit all my fake checks my fake business made cuz I'm a moron. LOL.

Ooooh. Thought of another one. (Don't hate a grumpy Irishman) I am a business, registered, certified, advertised. I am everywhere, I spend time and money advertising (professionally I might add) and check out the local facebook groups that people buy sell and trade on. Now where I'm at, the two biggest hobbies in the area appear to be drinking and scrapping so theres a fair amount of healthy competition. This is where it gets ugly. I see people looking for that "Jack scrap" guy and several people directing them to me. The first question by the OP is "What's his number?" to which a competitor sneaks in and hijacks the discussion by giving his name and number. Now I try to play fair here. I don't hassle people or try to mess with the other guys' customers but to repeatedly to sneak in and act like you either are me or somehow better gets me every time. Some will give full blown reasons, others just seem far fetched. One guy claims that he will pick up for free, split the profits and donate his half to charity. Not really a viable business model. Others will say that they are doing it to raise funds for some kids project but I hear through others this kids project is more like a personal project...like drinking and gambling. I suppose I should take some stock of how effective my own advertising is and weigh it against peoples laziness to simply google my business.

weaponepsilon, the first one I'd report to the police if it's on youtube, or EPA, if they're doing what I think they are (you didn't specify what illegal activity). The police love to catch morons with video evidence posted on-line, makes their job real easy. The second, I don't have any advice besides a grain of salt. I only have time to post my ads on-line once a day but it doesn't seem to matter what time I do it, my competition always watches for it and then posts shortly after, so their ad is seen first. Don't know how your advertising but I would think a specific name and logo would help you stand out. Besides that, just enjoy that you have a reputation other's covet and copy.

I'm not the snitchy type, but I will warn you if you're being a dumbass especially if you're telling people how to do things wrong or potentially hazardous. I've actually spoken with the EPA (hence the MPCA registration) about people like "redneck" who is too cheap to buy proper regulated equipment and shows people how to thumbtack and superglue their way to an early grave. The EPA official response, "Aint much you can do about it." Wait. There is a huge deal about it, laws made, regulations passed, people obviously forgetting the legal aspect and just half assing it and I'm told that?! I digress.

I advertise my business name, logo, services, on the back of receipts, jobs boards, local geographical SEO, business networking groups, name and number on the truck, a full blown website, professional cards, now I'm looking at annoying online track back adverts, local targeted ads, advertising in industry specific business networks and expanding my existing markets. I put a bit of care and consideration to allow my business to grow organically and find out which markets work for which commodities. Its disheartening that people can't even get the business name right or when they google it they use odd search terms ie. "Get rid of my fridge guy" instead of terms like "Junk Appliances Scrap". I spent a bit of time and resources reinvesting in my business and making more connections. I've researched different commodity markets, sold junk a variety of ways, and went with what worked.

What pisses me off? People who lack gratitude. We live better than kings did 100 years ago and have an easier life than humanity has ever lived and people will complain about how bad they have it and how much better their lives would be if they could just have the government make others miserable instead of being happy with their own lot.

I've found that the people who can't type the right search are also the ones that want you to bend over backwards for their tv, fridge, whatever. I intentionally use the correct key words in my ad's title and body so that someone who actually can read finds it.

My next door neighbor use to pick up trash from his front yard and his dog's crap and throw it in our yard. I never said a word to him. I just picked it up and threw it back in his yard.
