I love the game of chess, but finding opponents to play in person in this part of the country is almost more challenging than the game itself. I generally play against the computer on various apps where you can also come and go as you please. The best part is you can determine the level opposition as you see fit. When down in the dumps I play the easiest level and when I feel cocky I play more challenging levels. I heard the interest in chess saw a significant increase during the pandemic.
It was also partially due to a (fictional) netflix show starring a chess prodigy. It was a pretty good show and won some awards I think. I also saw that chess sets were selling out due to the shows popularity and the pandemic.
