Refining gold yourself at home...anyone done it successfully?

In the search for knowledge I would love to know the ins and outs of this. How is it done (i.e. ram fingers or cpu)? How many pounds equals how much gold? Where to obtain the materials needed? If someone could run it down in a Gold Refining for Dummies kind of way, that would be awesome. And PLEASE can we not turn this into a waste chemical disposal/safety debate.

Ive been doing quite a bit of reading on the subject..Refining Precious Metal Wastes C M Hoke is considered the bible to those on the gold refining forum..the book itself is 50 years old but that doesnt matter its amazing..also..join the forum like everyone says and read old posts for about a month before posting..also look into the chemistry of gold..and if you absolutely must learn from your own mistakes..buy the biggest bag of baking soda you can find and keep it right by you..

TF,You might also read this and do a search here for others that have tried and failed for one reason or another, I'm sure there's a ton of them.

What he means is that if he goes on the GRF and asks a question like that chances are he is not going to like ther platerre first replies that he gets from the members. We don't go for the entitelment attitude over there that everything should just be hande to you on a silver platter. We require new people to do a lot of reading and studying on the GRF , it is not because the members there are stuck up or think they are better than everyone, it is for the new members protection and safety. It is dangerous work and if you do the wrong thing with the chemicals it can kill you. My advice stick with scrapping.

And yes totalfish some of us do make money at refining gold. The button in my avatar is about 3-4 Toz of gold.

oh well that was sooooo helpfull. How can this not be a proper forum this kind of question. We all deal with pm everyday. These items are being refined everyday. we talk about "more than scrap value" everyday. Everybody loves to say "search forum asked before" Have you never thought many new people were not here back then to REPLY. I have a new thing we can start saying "if you aint gonna answer the question...don't say @%$#"

Yes, we may deal in precious metals everyday but refining at home is not the SOP for most on this forum. If you want to know how to and the ins and outs, your smart bet is to go directly to the source.

This is a scrapping forum not a precious metals recovering forum. Your questin was answered. Why don't you go on over to the refining forum and check it out. We have a very nice gentelman but the name of Harold that you will get along good with.

oh thanks again. My question was Refining at home, has anyone done this successfully. I know which forum this is...why I put the thread in the "really doesn't fit misc. section" Guess I should have put it in Off Topic. Or do those also have to be about scrapping. don't ever want to try refinig myself that's why I am not a member of GRF.

After reading your replies why don't you go to Basic English Forum or Arkansas Redneck Forum. They got an inbred named Bubba you would get along with.
I kind of answered your question about does anyone make money refinning from home. How about if I answer it a little better YES THEY DO.

I flunked english in school. At the age of 50 I doubt my spelling and grammer will get any better . If the wife has given up after 20 years you are probably fighting a lost cause.

And I proud to be an Arkansas Redneck, give me a cane pole, pack of marlboro's, and a 12 pack of cokes and I'm in hog heaven with my favorite Sow. And Don't make fun of Bubba he is a good friend, we have a monthly remake of Deliverance when the weather is nice up on the White River. We especially like out of town people.

That video needs to be removed before someone tries that and ends up permanently maimed or killed. Way beyond pathetic that is outright dangerous. IMHO the yields from that method would be less than what you would net selling the chips.

Exactly why people that want info about this should go the the proper forum to learn about it and not here, i.e. The Gold Refining Forum.

I agree that the videos need to be removed before someone tries experimenting with what they are looking at. This can be a dangerous processs in the wrong hands and chances are whoever here tries it will not recover thier gold because they will not know what they are doing. If someone here tries this on this forum I will not answer thier questions on how to solve their problems and what they did wrong. And as far as I know any other GRF member that is on this forum will not and should not answer the questions either. The side effects of the gas that is produced during this process can kill you. Might not do it right then it might be days later and no one will know why.

As far as the 2nd part of your statement.

The time it takes to learn to properly use this process, the time and money to aquire the proper equipment to do this process, the gold and other precious metals you will likely loose learning this process. Also taking into consideration what we and others here pay for chip's, you are 100% correct.

Now putting that aside. The statement of this being pathetic is an unjust statement and I feel should be retracted please. I use this process quite extensively and get the yields I need.
