    COLTAN..anybody familiar with this mineral.

The other day a man was talking about COLTAN. Some sort of metal/mineral, cell phones and other electronics can't run without it, most of it in the Congo, problems with supply.

Bottom line... sounds valuable. People are into recycling mobile phones. Maybe not scrapping them in the stricter sense. I am suprised this Coltan word doesn't appear often/once i think on the forum. Anyone know anything about this stuff?

Coltan is a mineral consisting of columbite and tantalite. Niobium and tantalum are extracted from coltan. The tantalum is used in capacitors.

Your question is like asking why no one talks about bauxite. Instead, everyone talks about the aluminum.
