there have been numerous study's that show a direct correlation between a shortage of decent paying jobs and increased crime rates. those same study's show an increase in drug use and child/spousal abuse during high unemployment. destitution creates desperation. desperate people will do whatever it takes to survive.

the increasing number of part time minimal wage no benefit positions will only continue the current problems.

detroit has had massive problems with buildings being stripped for the copper.

I have read analysis that shows you can either fund support for the poor (housing, transportation, food) or law enforcement/incarceration...amazingly it costs the same. In my mind it is far more ethical and farsighted to hold families and communities together with help than fund the highest incarceration rate IN THE WORLD. Poverty is an endemic problem of all urban environments going back to Rome. When our corporatocracy gutted U.S. manufacturing over the last 30 years that was a death sentence for the America we knew, now we get to watch it get worse and worse. Europe has similar metal theft problems as does central/south America. I fear that scrappers will be targets of hold-ups/truck-jackings very soon. Keep your stashes safe and remote y'all.

Basically the whole central inland part of California from north to south is flat broke. I know, I live here.
