If you are moving anything from Canada into the US, your best bet is to use a border broker who will set up the paperwork ahead of time. No big deal, 'cause the US Gov't just wants the tax money (and as others have noted, to make sure you aren't importing any kind of hazardous waste).
You might need to tread a little carefully with actually what you are going to do while in Canada. It seems to me that there are some rules around working in Canada...You may have to employ Canadians and supervise them or something.
Oh... and clean the stuff you ship back home. Believe it or not, we had a big Caterpillar 980 loader turned back by the US customs because it wasn't clean! (I was sending it to Riverside, Ca. for rebuilding after a fire.) Had to haul it two and a half hours back to our plant to get a fire hose and steam cleaner turned on it for a few hours. Apparently the border boys are afraid we might export a few of our mosquitos and black flies and other bugs down south, where they might find they really enjoy it down there! Our 'squitos are big---imagine a Canajan skeeter that grew real big on Louisiana warmth the size of one of them Amazon drone 'copters!
All my experience is with bringing American Techies into Canada to help service equipment that is highly specialized (implying no Canadian techs were available.) We had to provide the person with a letter from our company so the guy could get across the border. And he had to supervise...the customs guys would have a shzt fit if he showed up the border with tools. So he just borrowed ours.
So...you need to do your homework before you commit on this job. Talk to a border broker and maybe phone a Canadian consulate somewhere near you. I'm sure we (Canada) want the foreign business but there will be some hoops you will need to jump thru.
