Just treat that like a savings account and set it aside until you have a bunch of them down the road.

If your guy decides to turn loose of some of the material I would like a chance at it if that is possible.

If it's just plastic on one side and a flat metal heatsink on the other, I have the plastic side facing up and stick the screwdriver in from the bottom (where you see the slot sticking out) and using the actual board inside for support, pull the handle of the screwdriver towards me to pull the plastic piece away (plastic holders will pop on the one side):



Then I can usually pull the other side off by hand (if not stick the screwdriver in the other side to pop it). Now you see the actual slot processor, but the heatsink is still attached to the other side. There are two metal clips on the side you're viewing that hold the heatsink in place:



Pop those metal clips and the heatsink will come off.

There are no gold fingers on the slot processor pictured above. This was one I had already removed from the housing and cut the fingers off. I put it back together to take the pictures.

There are other slot processor styles that hold them together, but all are on the same basic principle.

Not what I was thinking then, but thanks for the pictures, for when I do come across them!

How rare are the 186 Pinless CPUs that you pay $350/lb? That is the most I have seen yet for chips.

They trickle in little by little. We might not get any for a while and then something gets in the water and we have an influx of them from different sources. I would guess . .001%-.005% of our material by volume.

Okay, I need to get straight about something, as they are piling up rather quick.

When it comes to CD/DVDROM drives and hard drives, they all get stripped? Meaning, you take out the green boards, and shred the rest, right?

If the Hard Drives are 80gb or more, then they may be resellable via ebay, craigslist, buyers on here, etc?

Yep, I sell the boards then the rest gets broke down and sold, but if your going to deliver a load to a buyer then use that stuff for "filler" to finish off the load.

What do you mean by "filler" meaning, dont break it down?

Yes if your going to deliver a load like I do, that filler material (power supplies, floppy's, etc.) pays for the gas I use, then the rest is profit.

Thanks for explaining.

I recently found out that the yard I go to here in my town, their main plant is in DC which is like 45 minutes from me.

It is not saying that they would get all my product, but the stuff that would cost an arm and a leg to ship, they will get for sure.

George dont know if you realize that in addition to removing boards from the cd/dvd drives there are little motors in each one as well. Also those power supplies go as elect mtr at the yard. If there is a question about them open one up and show it to the person at the yard.

Thanks brasscatcher, never thought about treating it as an electric motor before, but you are right. When I am ready to turn them in, I will see which of the 2 yards can give the better price. Unfortunately, until I become bigger with more space, that is one thing that I wont be sending to a buyer on here.

As I am sure shipping would be ridiculous.

I am a bit confused on something.

Do buyers only buy cell phones IF they come with the cell phone board?

If you have a cellphone without the board, what do you have??? A handful of plastic, maybe a battery.

I know what I would have but the question is, do buyers also buy the plastic...I know they buy batteries and boards but do they buy the plastic?

I would think that without the boards they are worthless. Wy not throw them in with some empty computer cases. A lot of the the towers I break down have plastic faces on them. I reattach them and they go to the yard. Never been stopped from doing it. You could probably shove in three or four in each case they are so small.

I was curious, because I noticed CLR in his pricing listed cell phones and then listed cell phone boards. At the time, I couldnt think of the name when I was asking the question. I doubt they are worth anything myself.
