I was told that starting first of the year it is illegal and prosecutable to throw away both computers and CRT devices in the general trash here in New York state. I was told this by an IT guy that is pretty on his game, but I admit I havn't looked it up myself.

I have been searching for a better way to dispose/ recycle TV picture tubs as well as CRT tubs with not much luck. So far the best I have come up with is a company 40 miles away that charges to take them. 80 mile round trip + a fee. Not happenin'.

Ask your local landfill. A couple of weeks ago I was at the Williamson County LF dropping off some carpet and found out they will take all electronic waste at no cost. Sounded too good to be true so I asked if there was a limit to what I could bring in, and they said no, so my gutted TVs and Monitors are going there now.
