DD, I used to take those off and put them in my motors/transformer pile but was told that they cant do anything with them - too much plastic. so now I just toss them in with my steel!

I don't know the flat metal plate, but the circle is made from brass, so I expect both are brass.
The ceramic stuff. I don't think its ever gonna melt back into steel... No matter how hot you get it.
I have always separated it out & thrown it into the rubbish pile. Its not metal.
Theres no way I'd put it in with the iron or steel, to me thats just plain dishonesty.
I have it happen around here. I strip the tv or moniter down to the tube and the plastic. I dont cut the metal band around the tube tho. I put the plastic back on it and write empty or gutted on the screen. Guys take them anyway. Im like ok dude, have fun. Eaither they cant read or they think im lying i dont know. Plus my scrap truck is parked in the street next to them, you think they would get the idea.
Best Buy or staples....3-4 at a time.
Ask your local landfill. A couple of weeks ago I was at the Williamson County LF dropping off some carpet and found out they will take all electronic waste at no cost. Sounded too good to be true so I asked if there was a limit to what I could bring in, and they said no, so my gutted TVs and Monitors are going there now.
