The reason why Bullion and Coin command a higher price in the marketplace is because they have added value in that it is marked directly onto the metal what exactly it is. As well, the name of the mint that did so which adds credibility.

I deal with NTR Metals in trade sometimes, where I can take my refined precious metals and trade them straight across for minted rounds. Silver weight for Silver weight, because I can then retain not only the value of the silver, and in an easy form at that, which I can directly spend if things ever fell apart. But also it is a known minted coin by a reputable precious metal company that dealers recognize.

Anytime you are able to exchange your precious metals, including copper, for anything known and minted, you would do well to do so.

At the heart of science is an essential balance between two seemingly contradictory attitudes--an openness to new ideas, no matter how bizarre or counterintuitive they may be, and the most ruthless skeptical scrutiny of all ideas, old and new. This is how deep truths are winnowed from deep nonsense. -- Carl Sagan
