I live in Minneapolis. All my life I have been the type of person to leave my car unlocked most days, I drop my change off with the man on the corner (if I have any) or a sandwich sometimes, I have left my house wide open on 100+ occasions and gone to the store/workout/scrap, and in general I trust human nature far too much. I don't have much to steal and don't wear jewelry aside from my wedding band. Haven't been in a real fight since high school. For me, the thought of possessing something on me that I could KILL a person with the squeeze of my hand scares ME more than I think it would scare anyone else. I think this last paragraph also just described why I work so well in the hospitality industry (LOVE my job =P). Never been robbed, assaulted, threatened, etc
I agree with what Scrappah said about keeping it in perspective. It was made public that multiple Islam converts have left to fight for ISIS from minneapolis, but the population in Minneapolis alone is 400,000.
Do whatever you have to do to stay safe! But for me that just means keeping a smile on and being kind.
Im a little more scared of being struck by a random lighting bolt, or getting into a car accident, having my plane crash, etc.. rather than encountering that 1 Looney that is possibly running around on the streets
