As a reserve, could you tap into the river with a small pump and pump it up to the house to a water tank?? Might be another option.

Could be used just for tolet flushing if nothing else. I grew up using the outhouse and in the winter that was far less than pleasant. I guess the summer time wasn't all that pleasant for other reasons. Mike.

it's not that bad really since the invention of high density Styrofoam seating has become a pleasure.
