We ship our cars in tin scows. When the bailer is down,we flatten them and ship and get 15 ton in a trailer. When we bail them,we get 30 ton in a trailer. There is some law pertaining to the guys that haul out of yards with a car crusher that the load has to be covered/enclosed. Its a lot easier/faster to load bails and no tarping required.
Bailers are far more expensive to buy/run than car crushers. Our Aljon 580 was worth a quarter mill. in 07 and burns a G note in fuel per week. I may be able to get better fuel milage now that we are rid of the operator and I train a new one.
