Why not pull the head and see how it looks? Check the wear on your cylinder walls and then decide, head gaskets can't be that much, and you're halfway home if you decide to get one and fix it, and go for 300k. Worst case you've gained a good sized piece of short iron
The condition of the body (rotting) plus the age and mileage made my dad decide that it's time to send it off, if the body wasn't rusted out maybe we would do the head gasket replacement...
