Maybe put an ad in the "free stuff" section of craigslist and say that you have a few CRT monitors that you would like to give away to a scrapper. Also say that you have a regular supply but don't tell them anything about your large stash or about your husband's condition, otherwise you will sound desperate which might attract thugs. Tell them that you are a scrapper yourself but that at this particular moment you do not want to scrap CRTs. And then add that you will want to find out in detail what anyone that responds plans to do with the plastic and glass.
This is just a thought. I've never done anything like that so this suggestion is not based on direct personal experience. You might not get any responses at all, of course. But the ad is free so it might be worth trying. Just don't forget to renew the ad every few days.
