    lead sink? or soap stone?

When I bought my house the home inspector said the old utility sink in the basement was a lead sink. I replaced it a few weeks ago because the drain broke, and I was stoked because the thing weighs at least 300# and lead is.50 /# here. After researching it a little bit I think it's just soap stone :-( it has"Myrastone" stamped on it on the bottom. Anybody know anything about these? I've been trying to sell it cause it would be a shame to just throw away, but if no-one wants it I'm taking the sledge to it. And why would the inspector call it a lead sink?

Lead is soft. Try shaving a bit off with a knife maybe. If its soap stone, you'll know. Never heard of a lead or soap stone sink though....
If I didn't have bad luck, I'd have no luck at all...

That's exactly what I have its a double sink. Soap stone is kinda like concrete but when you rub it it feels slick like soap. Still wondering why he called it a lead sink though..

    Don't sledge it
very easy to refurbish and sell for a good profit!
older soapstone sinks are thicker and most modern day plumbing does not fit on them so the faucets can also do well for someone who bought one not knowing. we get these out of barns and old houses often and they sell pretty quick

Scrap man, mine doesn't have the original faucet unfortunately and the drain on the bottom is half broken off. I could probably refinish it, how much have you sold them for in the past? And how? I've put it on craigslist and lowered the price 3 times and I've only gotten one email, but the person never replied.

Chris M., put a no-hub, rubber coupler on that broken drain and use it. I have one and I love it.

gotta get her cleaned up nice first and put a picture with your posting. In the condition you posted i would think around $100 cleaned up it should bring more.
A new soapstone sink will cost anywhere from 500-800
we sell to a couple places one being architectural salvage like mech posted, second is a place that sells used home goods, CL last! i don't like messing around with cl i would rather lose 50 bucks and move a truckload of good working items to the other places and let them deal with hymm and hawwers.
check out pemi vally habitat restore (facebook) pretty cool guys doing good for our community teaming up with habitat for humanity which has given two of my friends a place to live. I bring good items that don't sell here. in most cases I can't bring myself to scrap good usable items this place gives me a solution by taking them for a good cause. It also counts as a donation so it all comes out in the wash.
