    first time dumpster diving

Well next time i go I will check out the laws. But I didn't see any signs saying don't do it. Well anyways a cop pulls up and tells me and my friend to quit. It was late. Around 145 am. But I work nights. So I was up. Wasn't gonna do it real long just the shopping center in between where we were and the convience store we went to. Oh well I did end up with a heavy duty magnetic door opener before the law stepped in. Have you guys had a similar situation? I wish people would understand. Its trash! Let me have it, you threw it out!!

Check your city and county laws, I'll bet there's a local one.

Most dumpsters are owned by a private company. It is usually considered trespassing to dive.

If yoiu were in Bartlett or Collierville you can hang it up. You can probably get by with it in Frayser or Mid Town.

See if you had done it during the day the cops would be patroling the schools.

I just do it but a dumpster on property has trash owned by the owners and trash company . On public street the trash company would be notified about it. most don't care but it's up to us

The 'dumpsters' outside metal workshops here are supplied by the actual scrapmetal dealer. They have their name on it.

As soon as the metal has been placed into the 'skip' its owned by the scrapmetal dealer.
    -----------

The 'Waste bins' are owned by a waste manager firm, its waste. We can pick out rubbish from them.
    ----------------

The 'Green bins' are owned by our local council, whats placed in them is owned by the council, its parts of the rubbish bn pickup. We use wheelie bins.

the proper the skip sits on is a factore

The property it sits on is a factor By me a company Huron a subsidiary of IBM has containers with metal only and mix containers ,I was occasionally hitting the mixed ones but was finally stopped by the security at Huron = In short i was told you are on private property you must leave . It's obvious to me a thief will hit a metal only but given a choice dumpster divers are not wanted and there many logically reasons for it .
I have been so persistent that I am over looked & known for it. But if I go back to Huron petty larceny will be my reward , even I know that its not worth what I can find . some times you have to scratch one off the list and move on.

When I was 10 I used to trash pick 13 dumpsters twice a day at an apartment complex. I was looking for porn and anything cool for my room. I climbed inside dumpsters and cut open bags. Anyway, people would yell at me and call me names like "trashpicker" but I never cared. I found tons of cool stuff back around 1980.

Be courteous and respectful. If you find yourself in a bind just use the blanket excuse: I'm sorry. I didnt know.
