Ebay's out of stock feature is still new, and in our experience quite buggy, and we want to preserve our listings so instead of ending it we just skyrocket the price.
I see. IMHO you should find another way to communicate that an item is out of stock. For example, this was the first machine that I looked at, and I thought to myself, "these people are out of their minds with pricing!" If you hadn't been a SMF member I would just move on to your competition.
Just something to think about.
