What I do with printers

I was reading an oold tread started by Reelman65, 5-19-2011. Thought I would bring this up again sence I do a lot of printers. I get both low and high grade boards, at least two or three electric motors, some have ss, #2 copper wire, steal and ink cartrides. I can't find anybody to buy my plastic. All plastic recycling companies what you to have 30,000 to 40,000 lbs. but I did find one guy by me that will take it off my hands, saves me from paying to unload it at the dump. Plus he directs me to people that have junk to get rid of so it's a win win. ink cartriges I sell on line at ECYCLEGROUP.COM. Someone said in one post that printers were to much a pain in the a#*, but like anything else it takes practice and after a while you can tare them down in a few minutes. Well thats my story and I,m sticking to it.

I can tear a printer down in a min or less. Take it...get really pissed like Hulk style, then raise it above ya head, and smah it off the floor. Done. Then pull some screws to get the bopard and motors out. Exactly 1 min and 30 seconds..lol. About 30 sec to find the screwdriver, so in reality one minute.

thats one way to do it but when i try that get ink all over evrything or get cut by flying plastic

It seems to get top dollar for plastic it needs to be grindable. to be ground it needs to be same type of plastic, same color, and clean of foreign material.....and CLEAN...of dirt! For .22/pound, that doesn't work for me. Now if has enough metal attached, it goes in shred. All other plastic goes mixed in gaylords. screws and dirt and rubber. I give it to my plastic recycler for free in exchange for leads, and gaylords and skids. I think they get 3-5 cents a pound for it in bulk. I am a lot happier now.....

Actually almost all plastic molded in the last couple of decades will be labeled somewhere. ABS, PS, PPL, GF30, are examples.

card reader would be where you can insert memory cards from cameras and other devices. usually has 3 0r 4 different options. would usually be on the front for easy accessablity

Take the ink cartridges out first. Toss them in a box and take them down to an office supply store. Most will give you a few bucks each but usually have a limit on how many you can recycle in a day. Or, there's places online that buy used cartridges so they can refill them.

I take 10 cartridges and/or toners per month to staples. $20 in stapes cash a month buys T.P., paper towels, and packing tape... whatever I'm out of when I get my staples rewards. Haven't paid for T.P. since I started doing that.

For whatever reason, my husband LOVES taking apart printers. We have an overabundance of them and do the recycle-ink-cartridges-at-Staples thing. One thing is, you can only bring in 10 per month. If we have over that we give them to teachers that we know since they buy so much stuff for their classes out of pocket, so they can recycle them and get the rewards.
Still looking for somewhere that will take the plastic, though.

Theres gold contacts in printers, not much gold, but gold.
