Although I have bought and sold tons of lead over the last couple years I never did anything other scrap until I found this site in Nov. A few weeks back I stopped by a yard sale and was given for free a couple large boxes full of wire, extension cords, a TV cable box, cable wire, a radio, several telephone answering machines, 3.5 external floppy drive, computer cables, etc. I had a blast beating the crap out of things to get them apart and see their innards.
The one thing I didn't cut apart were the computer cables, an assortment of power cords, USB cords etc. Didn't seem to be much copper in them and most looked new, some were still in sealed bags. I know I could have put them on eBay, but that would have been a PITA. Instead, a couple blocks from me is a guy with a computer repair sign in his yard. Stopped by his house today with a shopping bag full of cables and told him Merry Christmas. Told him I was a scrapper, that I had found them in a bunch of wire and I figured maybe he could use the cables. Offered to buy e-scrap from him, but he said he rebuilt computers out of parts, however, the stuff he didn't need or didn't work he would give to me free. It would be worth it to keep his shed clear.Don't know what I will get, but it is bound to be worth more than a few lbs of insulated wire. Even better it will be a reocurring thing and possibly a source of future leads.
