    Yeah, don't worry about your eye "catching" things. That brass dohickey might fascinate for a while, and maybe eventually you will find something else that can take its place. Or the wife decides that she is tired of dusting it!!

    Either way, it will move on...you might find eBay will pay you more than scrap brass price for it...

    I'm the same way...my "keep" stuff tends to be more farmer-type...short ends of any type of steel or aluminum stock, industrial electrical stuff that can be used in my shop, hydraulics, etc. But my worst addic....I mean weakness for scrap is old bulldozers. Show me something 1940's or older and my tongue is dragging on the ground.

    The only saving grace is that the older ones are usually pretty small.

    In a moment of weakness I brought home a 1952 D8 Caterpillar....all 25 TONS of it. It went like this with the wife..."but honey, it still RUNS!" That excuse didn't work.
