How to organize the scrap till delivery day

I have a shed to keep all the scrap in but I can't figure out a good way to keep the smaller parts, like IC chips and such. Sometimes I go for weeks till I get enough to deal with.
does anyone out there have some ideas they would like to share.
    thank you for your help

I use like old containers that have a screw on top like the big peanut containers work well. Screw the top to a rafter in your shed or whatever and then screw the container back onto its lid with the ic chips in there. I also like coffee containers too.

We purchase laptop computers and many components for greater than scrap value. We offer a shipping reimbursement program.replies

    How large are you?

Small- Screw on containers work well. I like the ones that lemonade and fruit punch mixes come in.

Slightly Larger- Small Boxes work great. I ship via USPS, so for some things, I just set up a flat rate box and start filling it. When it's full, just tape it closed, and send it.

Medium Sized- Large Boxes can be cumbersome, so I built some plywood bins on wheels. They're like this, but more "rednecked".

Large Setup: I know of a place that uses pickup beds to store their large quantity items. Some are trailers with an axle underneath, and some are just stationary on the ground. The ones that can be moved are nice for holding your stuff. Just make sure the yard gives it back.

Totes , stackable . Or cardboard boxes are free . Might want to surf craigslist for one of those kids toy shelves with all the bins . I have a old TV stand on my workbench , it has 3 shelves and I just lined up some containers on the first 2 shelves and keep the taller ones on the top shelf .

In a shed I would maybe reccomend finding some scrap wood and making a permanent shelf so your not always bending over . A lot of guys use storage units . But if your still starting out or limited on space try shelves . I personally use empty plastic enfomil containers for all of my smaller items . Then dump in a larger container when it's full . Or plastic bags .

I use coffee cans for my cpu chips and eproms.
5 gallon buckets for #1 and #2 copper.
55 gallon (I'm guessing) plastic trash cans with wheels for my insulated copper and aluminum.
All circuit boards are sorted and put in boxes.
Empty PC cases are placed beside my work bench and are filled with any metal or screws. As each one is filled the cover is put back on and they are stacked neatly in the corner of my garage.

I have limited space, so i store from the ground up. I have found a lot of 13-15 gallon kitchen trash cans that i fill with my cords, copper, motors, and shred. Then when each can is almost filled to the top, i stack an empty trash can on top and keep going. I have had them stacked up to four in a stack. Plus for cords and copper it acts like a compactor so i can cram more in each trash can. Works well for me. Smaller items are in all kinds of containers i have found along the way. I like the plastic containers that disposable wipes(like Lysol and Clorox) come in for my chips, phone ends etc.

If you have some time and money on your hands build some bins and buy some buckets and trash cans. I bought a sheet of particle board and built like 15 small bins for little parts out of it, this is good because it's cheap and u can make them custom sizes. I also built a vertical 5 gallon bucket rack that goes to Delong and holds like 20 buckets. Just because it's small doesn't mean u need a small container

Thank you for the tip. Because I had coffee cans I used that idea.
My nephew was in the shop messing around and he cut a slot in the IP chip can so it works like a coin slot in a bank.
I wish he could spend a lot more time around here.
thanks again for getting me started.

Buckets with lids are an easy find in the alley way behind restaurants, with a little work they are great and stack-able.
