Technically, Ali Baba's brother, Qasem allied with a gang who stole from people. Ali Baba then stole from his brother and the gangsters and gave to the poor.

Regardless, this is completely off topic as Alibaba.com is mainly a website where you can contact a factory in China to produce your own product. I never thought about it but I guess you can buy/sell scrap on it too.

There are a lot of Chinese manufacturers on Ali Baba, but there is a huge number of brokers, and companies from all over the world on Ali Baba. I have held a charter membership since it first started, and even back then it was mostly companies and people from countries other than China.

It's just a trade site, it just happens to be the most popular and largest. It's not different from any other trade sight, and suffers from just as many if not more scam artists as the others do.

At the heart of science is an essential balance between two seemingly contradictory attitudes--an openness to new ideas, no matter how bizarre or counterintuitive they may be, and the most ruthless skeptical scrutiny of all ideas, old and new. This is how deep truths are winnowed from deep nonsense. -- Carl Sagan
