Kinda reminds me of Hosses or my backyard,,, They do get real tiresome after awhile. The neat part is when your cleaning degaussing cables and watching the bare bright bucket start filling up.

Joe it took us about 6 hours to pick up and unload.I have a full time cooking job, but after work I stop by for a few hours and play with them.Would say over 5 nights and part of a day off maybe 15 or so hours. I havent really been going at them to hard. Was hoping to take my time and not get annoyed with them and end up with some stitches.

End of Life Electronics Recycling company here in NC. They recover the lead from the glass. They have a crazy min of 4 or 5 tons, so I might be close by the time I get done with this load.

Do they buy them or do you pay to get rid of them?

When you start breaking the tubes, you are creating hazardous waste and the EPA can get involved, We have mentioned many times about NOT breaking the tubes. The tubes have lead and phosphor powder which are classified as hazardous waste!!!

Hobo-My understanding of this End of Life Co is you call them and they will pick up any/all old electronics. Any that can be refurbished will be sold and the others are recycled/scrapped. When they resale or scrap your stuff they will credit you a portion of the $$off of the bill they give you for their services. They do have a charge of $2 for all crt monitors/tvs "because of the labor involved in break down".However they will buy the already broken down parts for a small amount. They had several different grades of glass and were paying up to $160 per ton.As you can imagine Ive been kinda busy this week, but will try to find the info on the glass man when I can.

joebob-I hope you werent the other guy bidding on that one with me.When I confirmed the pick-up time,he canceled the auction. They werent trying to make anything off them, they just needed them gone. But I dont understand what you think there should be a rule for/against?

trashhaulerbigd-When I first started playing with TVs I would break them apart for the tiny bit of stainless in the funnel and the steel "screen" inside. After getting two really nasty gashes on the broken glass,I decided it wasnt worth it anymore.(The second time I caught a big ole 6 incher down the inside of my wrist up my forearm, even with my gloves on.) Then a little while latter I stumbled on this forum and realized that I had been doing a couple bad/unsafe things. Now thanks to the free education I have gotten here I do a couple things differently. The time Ive spent reading old threads has paid off several times, Thanks Everyone.

yea i was bidding but its cool no harshe feelings we are all in it to win it lol but on ebay i think if its being bid the auction should run it course and on some of the OLD crt monitors check craigs list some guys around here are making fish tanks out of them lol i sold 3 for 50 bucks the other day but most i break down and scrap i dont have the yard space to keep stashing alot and my storage units are full of boards now i got contracts with a couple yards on boards so i tend to stay busy but honestly man good score glad someone is making money and not busting the tubes up i used to untill i figured out i might be giving myself lead poisoning lol

Well Joebob, If you were indeed a bidder it's not showing up on the closed auction. The post makes it clear that they are free and ready to move these things...why should serious people involved in this transaction wait around while you drag your feet. You were both on a level playing field and my hats off to Shoots for making it happen.

2 weeks into this project and am doing pretty good. Before leaving tonight I took a good look at the pile of monitors that are left and am guessing only about 100-150 left(did about 300 already). I am thinking that if I hit them pretty hard this week I can be done by the first of the month. Then comes the fun part.....watching the copper buckets fill up.

On the advice of Miked(Thank you) I went looking for a 6" long extension bit and picked one up for $4. It is a little hard to handle at first, but that thing is really saving me some time. I am breaking these down so fast that its gettin hard to keep up with myself! I started with a dozen 50 gallon trash cans thinking they would be enough, but "I think we are gonna need a bigger boat".

He has a striper. I bought one just like his after we meet up and I got to see his. Here's the thread I started about the striper. This should help, Mike.
