I usually lean towards Dewalt for things that take a lot of abuse (skill saw, screw gun, impact gun, etc.) and Ryobi for light use stuff (table saw, 4.5" angle grinder, sanders). The only exceptions I make are for sawzalls (Porter Cable) and the 7" grinder (Makita). Porter Cable's "Tiger Saw", their version of the sawzall might be the best tool I have ever owned. The head rotates 360 degrees which is wonderful and you just can't kill it. 7 years of using it about 3 days a week and it still destroys everything I want it too. Combined with Diablo blades it is unstoppable.
