    #1 wire diameter .078 ?

Hi to all, I have seen it posted that #1 wire is anything the size of a pencil lead or bigger but what would that measure? .040,.050? Sorry if this has been ask a 1000 times but looking on google it stated a #2 lead is .078 does that sound right?

Its been my experience that #1 is 14guage but thats my local scrap yard yours can certainly be different. 14 guage is 0.0641 inches. Mike.

I would think so. I have gotten away with 16 gauge, its just up to the guy at the scale. Mike.

I pay #1 for any wire that has bright copper with no tin, brass, etc.
