There is lots of misinformation concerning the microwave ovens. As Shootlow said when it is operating it makes microwaves which is a form of radiation as is the the radiation that emits from your cell phone antenna. As does your cb radio and any other electronic device when powered up. The guy at the scrap yard has radiation confused with radioactive.
I think Kris Kringle was referring to the salvage yard worker not the person who posted the question.
You will most likely not going to educate the salvage yard worker on the theory of radiation so break the oven down into unrecognizable parts or sell somewhere else.
