"Am I wasting my time?"
It all depends on your time. Do you have the time to take things apart? Do you have the space to store and separate the scrap? Do you have the tools to break scrap down to its most raw form? Do you have the patience to hold scrap until you get enough to take to the yard? Do you pay for your scrap? Do you drive around to scavenge for scrap? Do you get phone calls from clients to get scrap?
You got good advice from above about the type of scrap you have, but your question is "Am I wasting my time?" Only you can decide that, you need to answer the questions above and decide if scrapping is right for you. Nothing beats experience and just doing it will tell a lot. If you are getting your scrap for free, take the time to strip it, separate it then sell it. After you do that a few times you will be able to decide whether or not it is worth your time.
For me, I don't go looking for scrap, I wait for the scrap to come to me. I have been doing this long enough that I have enough word of mouth advertising to keep me busy. I only provide free pickups of scrap in my zip code, I charge a pickup fee for any other locations. If there is a few loads from a single property I wont charge, and I often will pay for larger quantities of scrap. Every situation is different and only experience can tell you how much to charge or pay for any given load.
Good luck and have fun.
