    Alarm Systems

Anyone ever scrap household alarm systems?

I just a bunch of the stuff and need help identifying the boards etc. They look different than PC boards, but there is a lot of yellow metal. Just wondering how to best go about getting rid of them.

    thanks
    B

Smoke alarms have the radioactive element "Americum" in them. It's usually in a small can and marked as radioactive. I wouldn't mess with it but I bet someone somewhere wants to recycle that.

Does a redneck alarm system count? I have 2 dogs for the warning/siren portion of the alarm and loaded gun in more then one room in the house for the responce portion.

You can send a photo to me and or just post it here. I will tell you what ever you need to know about it but I will say this.

DO NOT SEND IT IN THE MAIL...YOU WILL GO TO JAIL FOR A VERY LONG TIME

When they are being shipped that have to be labeled. When its shipped and they run it into the MANY scanners they have...all they will know is that...that box is war world two with a BOMB of ALL BOMBS.....even more so after 911

Even when labeled they do not like it...

Interesting. Couldn't find that restriction on USPS site, though I did find a restriction on mailing car keys. Wonder why that is.. Maybe it gets caught in the machine.

The reason why you can is because it IS radioactive so they may think its a dirty bomb or something.

The US mail system wont tell you that you cant ship a pipe bomb....but I think we all know they would not like that either way...same thing with anything that's radioactive.

Having installed alarm systems in the past and bought the scrap from them I can tell you that almost all alarm panels will have mid-grade green board or low-grade brown board in them. Some of the newer panels that are internet connected may have a higher quality motherboard grade board in them.

I just took apart a cool bank alarm and the board had all that yellow ''trail'' all over it, not sure what it was but it peeled off.
