    You might want to check and see if it's somehow marked as being lead free. The earlier ones have lead in them as part of the brass alloy.

    The older ones aren't legal to use anymore. If there's one installed between someone's home and a public water supply it's supposed to be pulled and replaced with the newer kind. Same goes for the older brass water meters & shutoff valves.

    It's good news for those who make their living in the scrap metal trade. There's literally millions of pounds of brass coming out of service and heading off to the scrap yard to be recycled. Nice opportunity for someone that's in the right place at the right time.
