Copper/brass

Having a brain fart and a little embarrassed to ask but what is a copper pipe or tube with a brass fitting on it classifies as? I wanna say #2 but that cant be right. Thanks

Brass on copper usually down grades the copper to brass price.

Cut the brass fitting off or they'll give you lowest price for it all, which would be dirty brass I imagine.
When you separate them then you'd have #2 for the pipe and clean brass for the fitting.

OK yes I will cut it off i thought it sounded to good to be true to get #2 copper as brass weighs a lot more.

Dirty brass would suck. I would hope that they would just pay brass price as the copper is a plus for them... Is there a dirty Copper category?

Dirty brass would be very unfair since copper doesn't contaminate brass at all because brass contains copper anyway. The yard could sell the brass with the copper or even cut the copper off and throw it with the rest of the copper if it's enough to bother with.

Never heard of dirty copper. Ive only had #2 as my lowest at the yard i used to go to untill it shut down. I have dirty brass at .50 a pound. But I will just cut the brass off and separate the copper and brass that way i know for sure the prices it will go as

I think a better term for dirty copper would be CBM or Copper Bearing Motor/Material.

Just cut the copper where it joins the brass with a hacksaw..it takes 10 seconds and you get higher price for copper....i see plumbers in the scrap yard and they leave the brass on but they get scrap copper everyday..they probably get a better price anyhow
