I would follow the advice given. Cut the fingers off. Most refiners are going to want to see the gold on the board, not only can they get an idea of the age of the boards and thickness of the plating, but it is also a clear sign of what the material is. Shavings can be literally from anything.

How does it tell them the age of the boards, and does age really make much difference ?
