What would you do with this?

Just wondering what you guys would do with this floor lamp? Scrap it or try to sell it. It's brass, weighs about 10lbs and works great. At first I thought it was an antique, but a sticker on the bottom says 1998. If I knew the manufacturer I would look it up to check value but I have no idea who made it.

Those things are a dime a dozen. Anyone can pick one up at walmart cheap. Just scrap it

Thanks. I pick up floor lamps all the time too, but most of them are all steel so I just usually throw them in my steel pile. This one is brass I wasn't sure if there was a market for these types. I probably will end up scrapping it considering I'm collecting way too many things that I "plan" on selling some day.

    Join the crowd.
People may laugh at me, but that's ok. I laugh all the way to the bank.

Take the sticker off, then try to sell it...

    (Just kidding, of course.)

Real brass, or brass plated? I'm inclined to think it's the latter.

Not sure. It does have plastic on the bottom but a magnet won't stick to any of the metal part. So....I'm thinking all brass?

Could be plastic. Try breaking it. Or it might be aluminum. I really doubt all brass. Test by cutting past the surface with a grinder. Brass will be yellow/gold.

I had a few lamps that I found like that. The bottom was brass but inside the bottom plate, it was hollow with some ceramic filler. Also looked like the rest was brass but the bar going up to the lights had some sort of plastic on it that looked like metal but once I took it off, the actual strength was just a slim steel bar going up. The worst part was that the cord was twisted in the bar and seemed to take for ever to get it to twist out.

I would first assault it with saw or grinder and find out what it is. Then I would chop it up and throw it into the appropriate piles.

It could also be a pot metal (which is non-magnetic) with plating. I have found handles like that, looks like brass and non-magnetic and is heavy. When I broke one in two, the inside had a silver look to it, which told me it was pot metal. I threw them in with the rest of the junk iron.
