The reason pieces that are that thick are worth less money is they cannot be shipped to a shredder with typical sheet iron scrap. Those pieces need to be torched down which is a more expensive and time consuming process. I cannot think of a way that an individual would be able to process a counterweight into small enough pieces to get sheet iron price that would be worth their time.
