FYI, I made the calculations. Shred steel price seems to be similar to what we see this side of the pond, but not sure what Dougie means by armoured cable. If that's what we call BX (copper wires in an aluminum/steel flexible tube), he got paid very low compared to what I see over here.

Scrap steel - 12kg - 17p per kg - £2.04 (12 kg = 26.4 lbs / USD ±0.10 per lbs = USD 2.71)
Armoured cable - 14kg - 65p per kg - £9.10 (14 kg = 30.8 lbs / USD ±0.39 per lbs = USD 12.06)
Total -£11.14 (USD 14.77)
