Really? My main yard is payin 200/ton and they dont charge to drop a bin. Everyone else does. And thats why they have me as a customer. Unless theres a huge price differece, I keep with the one yard. Our shop usually gets a bit better than public pricing too. Having good relationships with yards makes all the difference.
I guess its kinda like a shipping company or cellphone provider. Sure theres some that have great rates or plans, but if you are with them for a while, they give you perks for being loyal. But like i said before, im loyal only if prices are all around the same. If my main yard drops to 160 and another is still at 200. Its a no brainer.

If I didn't have bad luck, I'd have no luck at all...

where in canada are you? i could see those crappy prices if that yard has to ship 1000km to a mill.

Wow, those prices are crud! I'd find a decent yard (even if you gotta travel an hour or so, get better prices (shouldn't be too hard to beat those) and let them know why they lost your business. You by yourself probably wont matter to them but enough of you and it will.. JMHO. Good luck>

Thanks for the advice I called another yard 1 mile from the scrapper I use now and they offered $175.00 per ton with free trucking

I would be ecstatic to get those prices. My yard is like a second middleman to the big yard 170 miles away and they have no one to throw comp at them in this dinky little town. Let me list a few examples. This may seem ridiculous to y'all cuz I can see you are used to prices like the ones listed above, but on my word as a man this is what we get paid around here. A penny a pound or twenty bucks a ton for appliances. Sixty a ton for steel (they buy long and short for same price). Sixty cents a pound for brass, twenty five a pound alum(again, same for all grades), thirtyfive a pound stainless, two even a pound for number two copper. The yard in roswell pays about seventy five percent more for everything but that's a ways away. And no one here pays motor price for anything not even the roswell yard, short iron all the way.

Might be worth renting a Uhaul truck and taking 10,000 to 15,000 lb to the big yard.
Esp. if you would have saved up your nonferrous to go with it.

If you enjoy your freedom, thank a vet.
Look under ( trip to yard this morning )and see if that's what you Read. Here in Dallas Texas they are 35- 60 cents depending where you go. We don't get the government stimulus package here.
