Those are the circuit boards out of the CD/DVD drives. They look a little like this.

I've got a decent little stash of cell phones that I've been breaking down. Can't wait to ship them in...

Some of the phones have the lcd screens attached to the main board, some have a separate board for the lcd, and some have two or three boards attached together via a ribbon cable. I've been breaking down completely to single boards, and removing any aluminum/stainless shielding that may be in place.
So, my question is this: should I remove the lcd screens, too? Some are only attached via cable, and some are actually soldered to the boards.

I did the math and it is more profitable to send the phones in whole but who am I to say

Yeah, it seems that's true, but I'm just a hobby scrapper right now. I take apart the electronics I find as a time-waster in the evenings at home. Down in the workshop: listen to the radio, drink a beer, break some stuff apart... you know how it is.

For cell phones please remove the screens, it is just for the boards. The screens make up a considerable portion of the weight unfortunately. We find most people send cell phones in with batteries removed.

    Thanks for the reply.

Shoot, I guess I'm not going to be taking phones apart anymore. Those screens are a pretty big chunk of the weight.

To me, personally, it is more profitable to just send the board itself. Yes, in a sense it is less weight, but you get more per lb by sending in just the board. You are shortening yourself $4.65 at the current prices by sending them in whole.

All you really need to do, is take a hammer or sledges and one or two good whacks will knock all the plastic off.

Another thing you can do, is sell the really good phones to someone who fixes them up and resells them.
