I guess it depends on how many feet of cable you have. But i do strip it because other than the copper center you also get the copper mesh.
Although I have not tried, one could take one foot and weigh the wire in question.
Strip and weigh each, copper, insulation, foil , and aluminum.
I think you will find it a waste of time.
Never the less, well worth doing the math!

Strip a small piece and check it with a magnet. Everything I've stripped has been copper coated and is magnetic. Not sure if this is all coaxial cable? 250 ft of coaxial cable RG/6 equals 1lb.
This is the same cable you use to hook up Cable TV correct. I strip the outer insulation off and pull the foil (if it cooperates) and the meshing, whether it be copper or aluminum. I don't deal much with the insulation around the actual wire. Sorta a hassle.
Yeah rg6 cable.There is copper clad steel and solid copper.I am talking about the solid copper stuff.

"PYROLYZE" does not involve fire. It is a process by which something is subjected to intense heat (usually chemically or electrically) but oxygen is absent (as an agent). That is why I asked "How?".
i does actually involve fire yet it should not be confused with incineration. i done properly pyrolysis does not make copper oxidized and brittle like incineration(burning of cables) does. How? you need large steel can (paint can is fine), 200l drum (optional), some scrap wood to make fire, and of course scrap cables (coax, ribbon..) then make a small hole on the lid of paint can, for evolving gasses to escape(diameter should be around 1cm). build fire around can. soon you'll se burning gasses coming from the hole. process is completet when there will be no more gasses coming from the can. if you do this right there will be no black smoke..

depends on the size I use a good electric wire stripper for larger but for reg cable and stuff I just throw it in my xmas light wire pile for 0.20lb
my yard asked me to give them a bunch so they could test it. this is the solid copper kind not the copper clad steel. called me about a week later and said they could pay me .23/lb. that's as is no stripping or anything. doesn't sound like much but I am taking them 600-900 lbs. a month and they provide the gaylords I leave at the customers warehouse. it works out well if you can find a large steady supply of cable and a place that will pay a decent price for it.
It's very rare to find actual copper coax.. Most yards just buy it as steel shred
Usually Ham, CB radio, and any transmitter tower set-ups will carry good grade copper coax, higher power usually does not like steel clad coax. Also most of the CB coax in semi trucks will be copper.Quote:

if you get coax from a satellite company it will be copper. if you get coax from a cable company it will be copper clad steel. has to do with how the system works.
Satcom stuff is very low signal strength. The LNB on the dish does nothing to boost the signal but it does strip out the carrier wave so all the receiver gets is the band the signal is on. (satellites pass down MANY MANY bands of signals) it's more technical than that but the idea is because signal strenth is so low they use high quality coax whereas the cable company has the option of turning up the gain at every node if you get crappy signal strength (the box cutting in and out and artifacting pixels)
Use a magnet to check!
I do it with all the coaxial I get. Oddly enough most of what I get is actually copper, an not that crappy steel/copper kind.
