I quit many years ago and found a similar reaction. It was my 4 or 5th attempt within about 25 years of smoking 3-4 packs a day.
The physical cleaning of my lungs was shocking and something I will not go into.
Years after quitting cigarettes I would occasionally have a craving for a cigarette but thankfully did not act it. I am now very sensitive to all types of smoke and engine exhaust.
Its never too late or too early to quit. The more times you quit the better you get at quitting. Seriously you learn when you fail just like other things in life.
One other thing I noticed a while after quitting was the inside of my truck stunk of cigarette smoke.
