Just curious: If you re-sell a broken flat screen TV locally, what are you getting. I am starting to get more calls on these, and I have flipped a few. I am not a worried about not getting the highest price per se, but was just wondering what a typical number is out there. I just got a 50" Samsung yesterday that the owner tried to have fixed, but repair men could not find the problem. Tried doing some research, but most posts were dated. Thank you
If in good physical condition sold a few to a guy staging houses otherwise I'd say the market is limited
I have a local guy that buys any I get in any condition for $20 ea and then fixes them up. Just have to be 32in or bigger. I usually wait until I have 5-6 and meet up with him.
Almost same for me here. Sell locally to a guy that fixes them. He buys 32"+ TV's for about $20-40 each, depending on model, size, etc. He buys the larger 19"+ LCD monitors too.Quote:

This forum is about 'Bad capactors' and how to fix things with them in it.
There's a lot of detail there.
Basically a lot of modern electrical items are dieing because of bad capacitors, somewhere along the line somebody got a bad recipe for capacitor oil, this bad oil shortens the life of them and so the capacitors are the weak link.
Most of the time you can fix a flat screen with bad caps by just replacing them with good ones.
Sometimes the bad caps also ruin other parts.
This forum is a treasure trove of information on what to look for, how it happened, how to fix it and anything else needed.
Also some flat screens have other problems, they can often tell you what and how to fix it by just typing in the model number.
Flat screens also have the problem of a single knock or such to the screen ruins them, but in that case the electronics are still good.
Take those electronics out and put them in a flat screen that's got broken electronics and often it goes.
You just fixed a dud flat screen that you can now sell for $200...
You need to build up a good amount of broken flat screens, but you can learn quickly what's wrong and how to fix it.
Or you can just unload it for $20 odd and do very little work at almost no expense.
With my flat screens, one was a bad mylar connection to the screen, real easy fix that one, a 55inch flat screen fixed for free.
At least 2 plasma screens worked when I plugged them in anyway...
Same with a few LED screens.....
And 2 LED screens, somebody just messed up the settings and turned off one colour by accident and couldn't turn it back on.....
indeed working plasmas are given away here all the time not to big of ones usually around 42in since no one really wants them its hard to sell but lcds are still going and leds are fast sales most are an easy fix. when you start tearing down enough you kinda just get the knack on whats wrong and can usually see it. I used to have a guy I sold non working ones to to fix up usually $10-20ea with screen intact less if broken but since there getting so cheap now he even started limiting what he bought so I just try and do it myself and if not I just scrap them since there is some goodies and its easy trash except plasmas lol
We changed our TV transmitting signal in NZ from analogue to digital a couple of years ago.
That created a bit of a watershed situation where newish flat screens suddenly became 'Old flatscreens', you can still use them with DVD's and such, but you need a set top box that sends the new TV signal to the flat screen.
That and the fact because of 'Bad capactors' and that the screens don't take much (or any) punishment without breaking, has kept the second hand values for flat screens up at about 1/3 or just under 1/2 new price.
Even plasmas have value, easy to sell them.
