Green Wires in Electric Motor

I decided to use a blender motor as my first copper extracting project. I smashed it open and I don't see any copper colored wire, it's all green, any idea what is? I'm still a noob at this but I thought that all electric motors had copper in them.http://img9.imageshack.us/img9/8603/blendera.jpg

Hello, What you are looking at is varnish coated copper to keep the individual wires from shorting out on each other, acts like an insulation. The copper colored thing behind the wire in the picture should be a brass armature. hope this helps,, Mike

Cut a few of the wires, and look at them. Some motors have aluminum wire, some have copper.

I usually take a file to it to see if its aluminum or copper before i try to extract

You were right on. I took a hacksaw, then the copper color started to show through. So, would something like this be #2 copper?

You have to remember that just about every yard is different in the way they grade things, heck your yard might differ depending on who's running the scale that particular day. But to answer your question, my yard would pay that as #2 copper.
