This week alone three came over the scales in pieces!
Now, I don't know but, I highly doubt they made more money doing it that way but maybe they just figured screw it! I'll just scrap it myself!
Is there any policy at your yard about cutting? I'd assume they'd be better to just drag it in whole???

I was under the awning of the payout office waiting for the cashier to add up my weights and do the payout of $.
I watch as a guy (who I don't trust) drives in with a car chassis upside down on a trailer and parks on the weighbridge.
As he drives off I say to the employee "Watch that guy, he was going to steal a car off my metal source guys 'scrap drop off' yard once.
But he won't get much for that chassis"
and the employee nods .
"And hes forgotton to take the catalytic converter off too"(I do a piggy 'back snort')
and the employee nods and nearly headbutts the keyboard while chuckling.
Any time I saw a car cut up I had reservations about "WHY?"
If you have a legit title for the car.. the idea of wasting time, effort and cutting materials to cut the car up makes ZERO sense.
In a lot of states if a car is cut up.. it is considered "no longer a car" it is just sheet steel
Sadly I saw a lot of guys who cut up cars.. and the reasons were because they didn't have title..
One of the reasons I got out of hauling cars at all.. around here.. lots of "dirty pool" going on! Makes the guy who ran legit still suspect by law enforcement.
Imagine how many hours that takes. If you have the title, I'd just trailer it. A little time to load, and you're off.
Of course, pull the valuable stuff. But, this?

The last one I parted out and scrapped I gave away the unibody so I didn't have to haul it since I didn't have a trailer hahahaha... the one before that went in pieces... a cummins 12 valve truck. There wasn't much left when I was done with it though. Those Cabs squish flat as hell in a hurry.Quote:

I thought that guy pulled the "car on the back of a truck" stunt twice. The funny thing about the photo above was that the yard was right across the street. I bet that police officer had a field day on him, though!

I dunno, it fits in the back of the truck, its off the ground and looks to be chained or strapped. I might try that if I could get it on my truck!
Let's do some math. That Chevrolet has 6 bolt rims, meaning it's either a half-ton 4x4 model, or a "Light Duty 3/4 ton". We'll give him benefit of the doubt, and call it an LD 3/4 ton. The GVWR should be around 7500#, depending on the engine and transmission. The truck will have a payload capacity of less than 2000# (My "true" 3/4T Dodge can legally haul 1900#). That is a 1996-1999 Taurus. The curb weight for the 1999 Taurus is over 3300#. Granted, you can dock some for fluids missing. But, right there, he is over the weight limits of that truck by a good 1000#. Now, to carry the Taurus and the weight of the truck, you would need either 10-ply tires or steel-carcass ones, like the Goodyear Unisteel, to be rated legally there. I doubt that he has those.Quote:

In my mind, someone who risks public safety by showing that much blatant disregard to traffic laws and common sense should be punished. Someone who does it twice should have their license suspended.

I read the story ages ago, but I can't remember all the details. I know the Taurus happened first, but I can't remember if he owned that red Chevrolet/GMC or borrowed it. I know the white truck was borrowed. I think they happened in a real short period of time.
You certainly are right- you can't fix stupid! Just try to stay off the roads when it's driving....
Wow. I've loaded my lil' 4-cyl truck pretty "full", but wow. No way I'd go that far. The traffic ticket would cost more the the scrap money you'd be paid.
What I would really like to see is a video of those beasts being loaded on the truck. Now that would be interesting...
(And why would he not just pull the Taurus?)

My father in law passed away earlier this year. He has a 1996 Plymouth Grand Voyager 3.3 ltr V6 curb weight 3680 so at todays prices $55.20?!?? Transmission is shot!
