Whats worth more? gas or electric??
That is a loaded question. Do you mean scrap value or resale value?
I am getting .23 cents a pound for electric motors, 0.35 for starters and 0.45 for alternators. Gas engines I am getting at least shred price.
Electric motors are going to pay better scrap prices due to the copper windings.
I just got a lawnmower engine that is mostly cast aluminum. I am thinking about pulling it apart because I think I can get more for the cast than for shred.
You can. If you, personally, feel it's worth the time and effort to break it down, then it is worth it. This is always subjective. Everyone has to make their own determination in regards to time vs value.Quote:

Ali lawnmower chassis get a higher price here in NZ. Special Ali, I think theres Copper in it but not sure, its about 33% more per Kg in value. ie $2kg vs 1.30kg normal Ali.
To get the valve seats out, use a cold chisle, bash it in and under the seat, then pop it out.
To get the cast in bore liner out, small engines and large, run a 9inch grinder cut right from one end of the engine to the other directly thru the center of the bores, under and over ( both head and crank sides).
Then bash a cold chisle into the cut and it should crack into two peices, steel log wedge works well too.
I was buying engines off the scrapper and cleaning them down and selling them back at a profit for a while...

Lawn mower motors pay Dirty Alum $.25 or Alum Transmission for $.15 Electric motors copper or alum wound pay $.22 - $.25 lb. Or toss either in with steel for $.08 lb.
i meant around you guys and no i will not stop scrapping i love it. I dont find many things I enjoy anymore
The gas in the gas engine is worth more then both, gas prices are high!
(actually their getting lower, but lets not call attention to that)
