Selling working laptops without power supplies

If you have sold a lot of laptops as working units rather than as scrap or as "for parts/not working", how is the final selling price affected if you don't have a power supply for it? What I have in mind is selling one-of items rather than lots of identical/similar machines.

In other words, suppose you get a working laptop without a PS, hook it up to a generic one with a bunch of different adapters for different models, install/test/take pictures etc. Now do you buy a PS for it before offering the machine for sale? Or do you simply offer it without one?

I sell a ton of refurbished laptops without the charger. You will get slightly less, but you save on shipping costs this way. It is not worth it to buy a charger for the extra 10-20.00 you might see.

You are taking about the charger NOT the power supply...BIG difference. You cpuld pick up a charger for the model number of the laptop off ebay or amazon pretty cheaply alot of times. Look at what they sell for with and without the charger...eapecially if a pretty decent spec one, theb see if worth it. Many times people will pay alot more if they dont have to hunt parts. If expensive just sell without charger and let the end user pay the price for the charger as they still might be gettibg a deal but dont have to wprry about profit margins like you do.

Sorry, but I don't understand the difference. Sure, one can say that desktops have power supplies and laptops have chargers, but unless laptops also have power supplies that are a different hardware part, this seems to be just a matter of less precise terminology. Or am I missing something here?

You are...the power supply is inside the laptop any ALOT more difficult to replace if it is bad. Just like a desktop power supply it is internal to the computer. The laptop "cord" is just a power cable with a transformer (the rectangular box thing) that regulates the power from the wall socket. These are cheap and easy to get a replacement...the power supply for a laptop is MUCH harder to replace as you really need to know what you are doing...moreso than replacing a desktop power supply. Opening and replacing parts in a laptop is not for the faint of heart or the amature.

Ah, I see. Learned something... Will use the right terminology

My only issue would be somebody using a bad or wrong power brick destroying the laptop and wanting their money back. Power bricks are dirt cheap on ebay for all major brands, and I think quite a few laptops sold on ebay are just resold again locally for a profit by somebody who knows what they are doing.

Anything vintage and collectable probably needs a power brick to sell (they are harder to find with proprietary connections and voltages).

Yes I would CYA yourself by stating if you are selling without the power cable..you can even look up the part number for the missing cable and I clude it with your listing where people can k ow the true cost to buy since they would also need to buy that.

Saves all sorts of "issues" with stupid people.
